Macbeth

Macbeth, one of the best known plays written by William Shakespeare, have themes that can be clearly observe since the beginning. Normally the author uses the weak points of the human’s behavior as a theme and expresses them at the beginning of the story with their consequence at the end. For example in Romeo and Juliet, the main theme is the young’s passion and amorousness. A long the play we can see how Macbeth, the principal character, does the most cruel things in order to be king, in other words, the thirst of power. The thirst of power is very common in the human’s behavior and it one of their weakest point, but this can be positive. The positive of this desire is that the individual can surpass himself and learn more and acquire a better lifestyle. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare shows the extreme part of the desire of power. For example: in the real life, the history of many royal families, a relative kills their own relatives in order to rule the kingdom (just like Macbeth do with Duncan and his sons). The reason the people do anything to gain more power is because the like the feeling and to demonstrate the other how powerful they are. There is an experiment that was done in a university. The experiment was to set the ambiance like if 20 students were in prison. In the prison will be “security guards” (they would have the power) and “criminals”. It was suppose to last one month but because of the cruelty things the students in the role of guards do to the other students, in the role of criminals. The experiment shows how a human being can be obsessed with the power they have. (The links below will explain more about the experiment) Also they demonstrate the pleasure the human’s have with the power and how they like to submit the others.

The classical literature has its own beauty. Macbeth is a play that has rhythm and some rhetorical figures which make the piece unique and with timing. The themes that are represented in the play are situation of the common life, it is not so far from the society and it makes easier to understand the plot of the play. The only problem that the classic literature has is that the author uses archetypes which make the reading a little bit difficult.
